Getting back to the point jjhoneck was asking about. In the UK we have different tests depending on age, and how fast you want to get round to killing yourself. Under 21 then definitely no bikes above 33bhp. Over 21 then you can go to a direct access test [to full power licence] or the standard test that means you are restricted to 33bhp for two years. You can do the direct access course but still take the standard test if you want. A bit shocked that in Australia you have to bin the bike and buy another! Almost all bikes can be successfully restricted either mechanically in the carbs or by a different ECU but the heavier the bike or bigger the engine then the more 'lumpy' it will be. It's hard to see how restricting the power does much for safety since a lightweight 33bhp bike [not a 650cc] can still be made to fly like s**t off a shovel and the roads are limited to 70mph anyway. Get caught doing a hundred here and the licence is gone until you resit a test. Then the real trouble starts when you try getting insurance.

Does anyone have a spare 33bhp ECU i can buy off them?
Just got a phonecall from my insurance company saying they need to see my restriction certificate, or they'll cancel my insurance. Suppose i better get round to fitting one!
