I went "SARGENT" with the blue piping. The reason i changed seat i kept sliding forward on modrate to hard stops on the stock seat.

So my concern was control. staying "IN THE SADDLE" and after two very hard stops from 70 to 0 mph the SARGENT SEAT EARNED it place on my 650. And yes very comfort long trips. and if your doin track days easy to slide to the side to hang a knee.

The passenger also benifits from the seat too they stay centered and comfort and no sliding forward.

It is still Your pick. If you have riding friends with Sargent or Corbin seat, sit and if you have riding passenger have them try too. The Sargent also has option for passenger back rest. The seat and back rest with piping a little pricy BUT Your um butt will thank you. And gives the 650 a more look of refinment.

There's a Corbin seat off of a 2002 Suzuki Bandit 1200 (NOT 1250) on Ebay right now.

I wonder if that seat fits the 650F? (I've had a Corbin seat on my Goldwing for 21 years, and it is absolutely the best money I ever spent.)

nope, sorry. The bandit 1200 is quite a distinct bike from the 1250/650. This seat will not fit your 650F.

Dang. Thanks for the info.

The stock seat on my 450-mile-old 650F is okay, but really not in the same league as the Corbin in both quality and comfort.

True story: In 1989-ish, my wife and I were on the "motorcycle trip of a lifetime", touring the Western United States on our (at that time) one-year-old Goldwing. We were a week into the ride, in Winnemuka, Nevada (which is as close to the "Middle of Nowhere" as possible), stopped at a truck stop for lunch.

I had the walk of a man who had been beaten on the ass with a wooden paddle for a week. The stock Goldwing seat was no better than the stock GSX650F seat is today, and I was in agony after a week on the road.

We were (gingerly!) sitting in a booth, enjoying lunch, when a truck pulled in with "CORBIN" written all over the side. I remarked to my wife that they made custom seats, and "Oh, man, would I kill to have one of those right now."

The driver came in for lunch. Walking past our table, he spotted us (the riding leathers, helmets, and matted-down hair -- I had hair, then! -- probably gave us away) and strolled over. "Nice bike" he said to me -- always a good way to start a conversation -- and I mentioned that I had heard nothing but great things about his company. I went on to tell him how desperately I wanted one of his seats, since we weren't even half-way through our trip and I could barely stand to get back on the bike.

He looked at me and said "Well, I've got one on the truck that would fit, if you'd like to see it?" I looked at my wife, and remarked "What would we do with the stock seat?" We were packed to the gills with 3-weeks worth of clothing, camping gear -- you name it.

The Corbin guy said "No problem -- I'll mail it home to you." At which point, he had sold me a seat.

So there we were, at a truck stop in the Nevada desert, in the middle of "B.F.E.", wrenching away on my Goldwing. He installed the new seat, took the old one with, I paid him (something insanely high, at the time -- I want to say $300+), and we were on our way.

The next two weeks were SO much nicer. That seat literally saved my ass -- and it's been on that cycle ever since. It's been amazingly durable -- it doesn't look ANY different, 21 years later!

I am sold on Corbin seats.

Sat on a corbin today (holeshot) on a gsx650f, and the owner of a bandit also had one, they both claim the seats are great. I was surprised at the firmness, but the shape certainly cups you well, it is an inch lower than stock, and you can notice that.

I had previously contacted Sargent - they have both a lower and regular height models, and for greatest comfort they suggest the higher (thicker) model. They also have a return policy of some sort. - Not sure if Corbin or Corbin Holeshot does.

quote="meetone"]Hi All,

It's time to invest in a new seat, the stock saddle is starting to give me a case of numb bum.

I'd like to keep the stock saddle in original condition to add value at point of sale, and there's only a small number of retailers here in Australia selling Corbin and Sargent saddles.

Has anyone installed either of these seats? I'm looking at getting some real-world opinions, as it's a fair amount of money (about $700 AUD) and i'd rather not spend cash on something that's of little benefit.

Cheers[/quote]

I've got a corbin and just finished a 1k (km) trip from the netherlands to luxemburg and back and no pain at all, did the same trip a couple of months ago but on the stock seat. With the stock seat I couldn't sit properly on the bike for the last 250 km and had to make some stops. With the corbin I could keep riding.

I have a Sargent seat on my GSX650F (and on my FJR 1300)....in my case, the Sargent is drastically better than the stock. It keeps me from sliding into the tank and is comfortable for hours of riding. Best upgrade you can make on a bike, in my opinion.

I can now post a review of the Spencer seat = http://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php

The bottom line is that for a very reasonable price and turnaround time I was able to get a seat that looks stock and is definitely more comfortable ... to a degree. Spencer told me up front that the mod he does takes what he calls a '30 mile seat' and makes it into a '100 mile seat'. This I can agree with.

I commute a distance of about 25 miles each way daily and on the weekends can occasionally put a couple of hundred miles on the odometer with a couple of rest stops thrown in for good measure. I put about 600 miles on the bike before the seat mod and about 1500 miles on the bike after the seat mod. Overall this simple and inexpensive upgrade has been well worth it. I went with the basic rider seat mod ($50) plus the Supracor upgrade ($25) plus round-trip shipping ($25 within Florida) for a total of $100. To me this was a bargain.

Spencer wants you to contact him ahead of time with details such as your measurements (height, weight, riding position) the bike information (make, model, year) and any other information that you can provide (such as use of risers, penchant for saddlebags or passengers). He also wants you to include a picture of yourself sitting on the bike as you would at a stop light. This gives him a visual to work with. He will let you know when to ship to him. He will also let you know if he is unable to do the work -- some seats he just won't touch.

Would I like a Corbin or Sargent --- sure. Do I want to pay for one (or can I afford to) -- not right now. Given my riding style and how I use my bike this was the best option.

Fyi, to anyone interested on a sargent seat, there's one (brand new) on ebay right now. Just do a 'gsx650f seat' search and you'll see it.

I tried the Sergeant seat and it was a bit too hard for me. The suppliers were great though - took it back for a full refund. I now have a gel pad in a cover from http://www.danmedicasouth.co.uk/shop/mo ... -seat-pad/ which set me back £45 inc delivery which seems to work well and I plan to insert it under the seat cover soon. Next step in the comfort stakes I reckon is a decent shock as I think no amount of clever padding will ever entirely overcome the slightly poor rear suspension. Going for a Hagon which is actually a slightly cheaper option than a custom seat.

I want to add to Bostandann's comments and update my experience with the Spencer mod. I had the Spencer treatment done to the seat and have ridden with it for about 3500 miles now. Spence did recommend that you "break in" what he does for 100 miles. Wasn't sure of the change at first. I also commute 25 miles each way and don't really use the bike for much else and can't really justify the expense of another seat. Prior to the Spencer treatment my butt would go numb in the 40 minutes or so of commuting. No such problem now. Not sure how it will do for a longer ride, but the advantage of the Spencer treatment is that you keep the stock seat look, which I don't mind. Maybe that I'm now just more use to the seat, and this is just a placebo, but as I said for $100 with shipping from PA it was a cheap fix to the stock seat.
