I have a 2008 bike with the stock can and I noticed a little extra noise this morning. Upon arrival, I see that the weld appears to have split below the muffler and attachments. ???
Is this normal for a well-maintained 3 year old bike? The machine came with a 2 year warranty, not sure if this would even be considered under warranty at this point.
I've heard two schools of thought, unsure which is correct:
1. damage can occur to the pistons, etc. 2. more torque = a good thing

the shiny stock muffler has a split in it? I say get a cheap (delkevic shorty) aftermarket exhaust. If you run it like that, you won't have any problems though, other than the hiss and patter of a leaky exhaust.
Select for a GSF1250 (bandit 1250) and you will have provisions for the center stand, if you've ordered one with your particular bike. The sound is Great, the fitment is Great, the price is Great.

Yep. take it to a dealer, make sure they know it's a catalytic system repair, and you will get a spanking new header put on, and since they have to drop the radiator, you will probably get a coolant flush & fill for free as well!

As for engine damage, I say NAY to it. There's a cat converter in the header. even if you run NO EXAUST AT ALL, just open pipe, the cat provides enough backpressure that it doesn't even mess up the idle of the engine, so it has enough backpressure to scavenge, and keep hot exhaust gas out of the valvetrain. It is perfectly OKAY to run it as is, but a dealership will fix it for free.

casp, my 650 had the same problem, a crack 360 degrees around the weld and luckily I was able to claim on the warranty after submitting photos through to the agent. No its not normal considering the year, however thou a recall has only appeared for the ( recifier cover adhesive ) the exhaust problem is'nt limited to you and like the adhesive the welding has proven to be insufficient on some models.
