Just wondering who's spent anything to upgrade their suspension. Started to find things not feeling as stable last week when out riding over various corners & bumps. It's an '08 model but only 7000k's & to my knowledge it's never had the fork oil changed. At a minimum I will get that done but also thinking about changing fork springs. Has also been suggested to put in gold valves/provalves while it's apart.
Do you guys think this is overkill or not?

Al.

Heavier weight oil should reduce the softness of the front fork but also makes it rougher on bumps.
Hyperpro (Dutch Company) makes progressive springs/valve/oil kit for our 650. They also make a fully adjustable rear shock. But total price would probably exceed $1000 AUD. Total price for us Dutch peeps is around 700 euro with installation.

It's that I have another bike in mind, otherwise I would've clearly done the suspension modification. Its the best mod you can do for you bike, especially in combination with a good quality tire like the Pilot Road 2 it would transform you bike like you never could've imagined.

The GSX650F IMO is undersprung and overdamped.
The bike already has progressive springs in it so you need to decide if you want linear or progressive springs to replace what is there.

For linear springs have a look at the racetech site which can help you decide on spring rate. You won't be able to buy them direct from racetech as they have dealers in Aus but if you head on over to the solomoto site they will help you out and from my experience they will end up cheeper. But with the change in exchange rates and some US companies jacking up postage fees check it out first.

At the moment I have new springs (0.95kg) and have changed fork oil to 7.5w motul oil to suit my mrs (the rider of the bike) and it's a huge difference. I'm about to put in GVE's very soon tho, so things will change again.

I know of another GSXF rider that has done springs (different rate as they weight more/less) and has used 10w oil and he says it is great.

Can't recall exact price but think it was around $150 aud with shipping for the springs and oil change. Great value for the difference it makes

I looked on the racetech site & it calculates for a 1.00kg spring (I weigh 82kg + gear). Does this sound about right? I have a mate who might be able to help me do the work but it could be a while until he has time. Other option is to pay someone like Promecha or Krooztune to supply & do the work which has been quoted from $350 to $550 all up.

The racetech specs are sometimes a little overboard for the rough aussie roads so keep that in the back of your mind when selecting the right one for you

Do a comparo between the product search for spring rates and the rate suggested on the DVS search screen as they sometimes come up different. You can also muck around with the DVS search screen a bit more.

According to the racetech guys
"semi wet" is wet/curb/rideaway weight minus a full tank of fuel. it is not dry weight

If you download a workshop manual and have a bit of mechanical knowledge you should easily be able to do this work yourself. No special tools are needed apart from a torque wrench and a pipe cutter if you want a really good cut on the spacer tube.

I thought I saw somewhere on here that semi wet was half a tank of fuel? If I use 220kg as bike weight (no fuel & a/market exhaust) it gives me a rate of .967 so maybe go for .95 instead.

Found some parts I might try out in the front & have ordered. Stay tuned for an update.

What did you end up getting and are you doing it yourself or getting someone to do it for you

I will be trying the Ricor Intiminators. Fairly straight forward install so will probably give it a go myself.

Intiminators are in & do make a difference to the way the bike rides. Still need to play around with fork oil height a bit more & maybe try a slightly different weight from what is specified to get what I hope I can from it. At the moment it feels supple & softish on the road absorbing bumps & irregularities, but more planted on the road when you start to push. A couple of glances down during a couple of test runs & I think I was going quicker than normal even though it felt effortless & slower.

Will try them out a bit more over the coming month hopefully & be able to post up a better review once I get them sorted out.
