Just completed a 1500 mile trip over the Easter weekend here in England, and noticed a disturbing new trend...
...most of the other bikers I ran into seem to have abandoned the friendly nod previously doled out to their fellow bikers!
I would guess that more than half of the other bikers I ran into never reciprocated with the nod. Is this a consequence of the economic downturn? Are we all so unhappy now that we have abandoned the nod? Is the nod directly proportional to house prices?
If this keeps up I may have to consider only biking in France... IMO the clutch hand salute is much cooler anyway!

I haven't noticed a downturn in nodding, myself. I'd say around 80% of riders nod and I haven't seen this change. Perhaps you've only been meeting Harley riders? ;o)
You're right about the French left-hand gesture, though. If ever there was an argument for riding on the right-hand side of the road, that'd be it!

Well from experiences on rides lately most of the sport bikers i pass wave back, maybe 80% of them. Now Harley riders are a different story altogether. I gave up on even waving to anyone on a Harley because they almost never wave back, i think it's the whole im on a Harley and you ride a japanese bike thing which is ridiculous to me. If they wave to me i will gladly wave back but i never initiate it anymore.

You do get a few nods here in Oz - I would agree with you, about 80%.
I don't nod at scooters, but I make a point of nodding at Harleys (you never know when you might want one of them to back you up) and a lot of them nod back (only when they are travelling by themselves, or in a group of 3).

Most riders here in Nova Scotia will give the left hand wave. Never heard of the nod. Must be a left side drive thing. Some Harley guys will ignore you. Who cares...Harley drivers are Doctors, Lawyers, and Scumbags or Scumbag wanna-bes.

I get the nods, the Low left waves and the Hi left waves from just about every rider I see. Must be because my bikes better than theirs.
The MC community in the circles I travel all watch out for and acknowledge each other just like we are all from the one big club. Kind of cool, but sometimes kind of annoying when there's a lot of riders around.
As for the Scooter community......You just gotta laugh. (some females excluded !!!!!)
