Been tossing and turning the last few weeks about keeping or selling the F when I get my Busa. Damn hard decision to make.
The F has been a tremendous bike that so far I have not been able to fault and I really don't want to let it go. However, I will soon be the owner of a brand new 2010 black Hayabusa which for me is the mother of all bikes.
My main (actualy only) reason for selling the F will be to help fund the mods for the new Busa. Just the wheels and exhaust alone will set me back $7500+ and that's only the start of it. And no they are not made of gold just full carbon fibre and Titanium.
If I sell the 650F, I can buy the wheels and exhuast straight away, if not it will be in another year. The only mods I'm planning to start with are for weight reduction and improved handling only. Performance mods are not exactly needed.
To sell the F or not to sell the F?. To have two bikes or just one kick ass Busa?

Mate, I would be in two minds as well, If the F goes so does your touring and cruising, but waiting a year to start your mods will prob kill you. When i decided to save for my F, it was going to take me 8 months to get the money. But i was so obcessed with getting the F i saved every spare cent i could find, well what do you know i had the money in 5 months. I think you should keep the F and see how your saving goes and it will give you a little more time to consider the mods and you may decide on something different once you have had it for a while. Before i got the F i had in mind all these mods that i was going to do. I've had the F for nearly 5 months now and have done 15,000km, and didn't do half the mods that i planned to. Don't know if this helps at all, but think of this, if the F goes will you be able to do all the kind of riding you want to on the Busa? eg a 500km ride with the guys from this forum. Good luck with your decision and keep us informed.

It makes sense to have more than one bike if they fill completely different roles (ie. a dual sport, and a street bike), but if they do pretty well the same thing, you are just wasting your money imo.
The Busa will do everything the GSX650F can do, and then some (visit Perth for lunch, then Brisbane for dinner ) . I think you will find the 650 will end up gathering dust in your garage. The GSX650F is a great bike, but if you have no reason to keep it, sell it to someone who will use it. This is the advice you are looking for anyway .

ahhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm BUSA mmmmmm, have to clean up my spit dribbling from my chin. I would keep both for a few months and see if you are still using the F once the new bike feel wears off. If not then sell the F, and then ship the busa to canada for your new best friend!

The F will make a good camping bike over the Busa. I kept mine, if you can afford it keep the F for commuting and camping. Longer runs on the Busa may be more painful.
Oh by the way I took the CBR out for a 200 mile run today...can you say hoot hoot? What kick to ride but I can't see myself pulling a multi-day run of 500+ miles each day with the CBR. I'll keep the F for that

Points for selling the F If you have 2 bikes then it's 2 times the cost of everything bike related like insurance, rego, etc You can get the mods you want You can use the money to buy lotsa fuel and tyres and servicing and stuff (and probably clean jocks for the first couple of weeks) you don't have to choose, just ride the big boy you get more room in the shed to stack those bits and pieces waiting for some time to mod the bike
Points against selling the F If you have 2 bikes then it's 2 times the cost of everything bike related like insurance, rego, etc You can't get the mods you want right now You get to choose which bike you want to ride depending on your mindset If your partner wants to ride with you and doesn't have a bike, they can take the F while you ride the bigun It's probably a better choice for commuting (don't really know as I've not ridden a Busa) You get to stay here and comune with the rest of us F owners instead of staying here and making us jealous by saying "remember when" and "oh my Busa does this"

I think ride4life and eospro have a point; Once you have the big Busa it'll consume your interest. You might want to spend more time riding it as often as possible and once the new bike and all of it's glory of being stock wears off, you might have a little more put aside to mod in phases. If you have a riding mate who wouldn't mind mounting the camera to the F while you take off at warp speed- that's fine. Basically, how much long term functionality would you continue to get from the F? Would you still cruise and tour? Do you have a significant other, son, brother that will ride with you? What's the best possible price you can get for the F? What if you don't like the Busa after a week and you ship it to RushX? (Ok- thought I'd slip that one in there) I'm greedy- I want both! Doing the mods on the Bus will be great motivation the come up with the money faster.

Keep the 650 for the everyday use and keep the Busa smick for the weekends. No use buying a $18,000 bike and then rack up the km's and getting stone chips ,leaving it out in the rain or in a parking lot to get covered it bird crap for hours while your visiting a mate or at work. It will hold its value longer ,then if you sold the 650 and put $7000 worth of mods on it and rode it everyday. Remember mods don't add value when its time to sell...your $7000 will be lucky to get $3000 back.

bb i've been down the same path , looking back i don't regret selling the F for me it was a matter of ongoing running costs having two road bikes , as a wage earner that i am it was not possible to run , insure , tyres , rego , two bikes ect .
Once you start getting used to the massive torque and power of the busa riding the F will never been the same again , it will feel like your riding a toy.
A word of advise don't expect to keep your licence for long once you get the missile. (don't ask me how i know).
Keep the F if you can afford to run two bikes and enjoy the best of both bikes.

Thanks for the advice and opinions everyone. It's been good to hear the different points of view from you all, but it still doesn't make the decision any easier and my pro's and cons list is an even 50/50, so I've decided not to decide at all.
No matter what I'm buying the Busa and as for the F, I'll just let my day to day life decide it for me.

Could I pack your F in my bag? I can sell it for you (USD 18000) here in Brazil. Easily.

Yep take it away mate. Should be no problems getting it back on the Plane with you. If you can get me $18000 USD in a legitimate sale I'll give you $5000USD for your trouble.
Hey I might even have the Busa when you get here too Mescol. Will still take the F on our trip, but if I do have it, you can take it for a spin around the block.

cheers Sleddog , good to see the place doing so well ! btw the 'F' made second place in bike sales for the 2009 sport touring catergory (Oz). What's the bet it's number 1 for 2010 (Oz). I keep telling everybody it's a bloody great bike.

BB your brave , i reakon the wheels would last 5 minutes with the state of roads in Oz , a typical pothole and they'd be rs.
