Hi all,

Help! I am struggling with this... :?
My bike is a GSXF 2008. I would like to lower it about 1 inch so it can be easier for me to hold the balance, move it in the garage, back it up stuff like that. My question is: could this have a negative impact on the suspension? I mean will this automatically cause bouncy ride ? :(

Thank you everyone for your advice on this !

Dropping it 1 inch will not affect the suspension in any negative way. If you will benefit from the extra ability to plant your feet
on the ground safely, put that priority first. After it's dropped you can then adjust the suspension yourself quite easily to find the best
settings that you prefer. Don't drop it more than 1 inch though. Lowering links (aka. Dog Bones) for the 650F are in abundance on Ebay.

A few members have already done it and posted their comments (none negative that I have read) so try a forum search too.
One comment though is that if you have a centre stand fitted you 'might' have trouble getting the bike up onto it.

Cheers. BB

Thanx so much BikerBoy for your feedback this is very reassuring for me! :)

Not a problem for the centre stand I don't have one.

One thing though I was told that the side stand will have to be bent a little bit which I think makes sens.

Hi tzuki,

I had mine lowered by the dealer, agree that the centrestand is more difficult to use and requires more strength to lift the bike.
As for the side stand, it will need to be bent more so that bike is not standing too vertical, dealer says you can either cut it and weld it back orlike mine they bent it.
Also the dealer adjusted the front yoke to maintain the original geomotry of the bike so the front is lowered a bit as well.

Hope that helps.
Dan

you can lower the front by sliding the forks up in the triple clamps without any effect on the front suspension. I'm not sure how the rear is effected by changing the dog bones though because I have never lowered a bike, but I don't think 1 inch should matter too much. If you need to lower it to reach the ground, by all means lower it. Having your feet firmly on the ground is very important.

Hi there

To go down 25mm is not that hard. To do my bike my husband manufactured new dogbones, which are the links between the swingarm and the shock assembly which are longer than stock. Make them from mild steel and you'll be fine, it's only a couple of holes in a drill press, and you can change them with a scissor jack under the frame at the rear cross member.

He then bent the stand at work, and it's all done. The bike is much lower, my husband is bent knee sitting on it, I am not quite flat footed.

When i lowered mine 1" front and rear i loved being able to plant both feet flat on the ground, but with the negatives i choose to put it back to standard. The negs--> needed two people to get it onto the centre stand, bottomed out with the exhuast on several speed humps, and bottoming out the front suspension on bumpy roads even with the preload screwed down and i only weigh 60kg. I had to adjust the position of the handle bars as the preload adjusters hit the bars. I didn't notice any difference in the handling though. my 2cents worth.

Hmmm... so I guess I'll have to give it a try and see if it works fine for me...

From what I can see, it did worked for some of you guys and for some other you were disapointed...

I might also consider doing something with the seat...

Thanx so much for your feedback!

hi matey, all i did was take out the rubber mounts(front) under the seat.me being only 5' 7" i found that i could now have most of my foot(or feet) flat on ground.also to note is that when at a stop, right foot on brake and left on ground you (your body) has a tendency to lean slightly to that side(left) without you taking that much notice.
i only found out this unusual thing when my wife followed me in the car through a series of traffic lights.
thus the body naturally compensates for all shapes and sizes us humans may be!
hope this helps.
