i just had my first service done at the dealership was pretty unhappy with the service and time wasted. So been thinking of doing all myself from now on.
The question is what type/kind of tools will i need to do a decent job??? All i can figure is some T handle Hex/Allan keys and some socket sets. But what sizes??? and does it matter if i spend few $$$ on quality or will the cheapy set i got as presents do???

I think you should buy the workshop manual. It tells you what tools are required and how to do most jobs.

I'm all for getting the hands dirty and doing the work yourself, but if your completely new to this and have no clue about the bike and mechanical side of things it's best to buy and study the manual a bit first before splashing out on tools etc....
Maybe get the first two or three services done, ask a heap of questions, search the forum for knowledge etc.. before you jump into it.

I don't think you loose your warranty if you do the services yourself, just need to keep receipts to show the work was done (and correctly). The manual doesn't say the services 'must' to be performed by a mechanic (only recommended).

From memory the procedure to do an oil and oil filter change is in the user manual (very basic info I might add) I think most basic servicing is in the user manual truth be told Agree you should buy and study the workshop/service manual if your new to spanner turning, but don't let it stop you doing it. Have a go if you're not sure ask BEFORE doing it so you don't break stuff.
there are things you can't do at home but by doing the basics you a. save money b. get to know your bike c. learn to maintain your bike d. become one with your bike e. learn to be a bit more mechanically sympathetic to your bike f. save money

Warranty WILL be void ,if not service by a qualified motorcycle mechanic...
Its in the warranty book . There is alot of dealers in Sydney ....I bet you went to Actions ??? ,Try a independent motorcycle mechanic ,I have a great mechanic here in The gong ,you get a relationship going with them and get one on one service and mine is $185 which I think is very cheap and the warranty is still good. You can do some of your own stuff even give it a service in between service your self ,but I ride knowing it if going to break down I'm covered. Besides oils and lubes etc ...all your really out of pocket is labour and if you get say 2 services a year ,your only out of pocket about $300 is the very worst case.

Start with the basics (oil change, oil and filter change, drive chain tension adjustment) and as you master each task your confidence will grow (as will your tool collection ). From what I have heard the Suzuki warrenty is largely worthless anyway. If nothing big has gone wrong in the first year it probably won't. Just make sure you get the service manual and follow it to the letter, and get a mechanic to do anything that you are not confident about.

I knew you when to actions as soon as you said ,you would never go back. They sold me a brand new bike ,with little to no oil ....rode it home from the dealers only for it to be towed back 3 hours later on the back of a truck.

Yeah i must say there customer service and attention to detail leaves much to be desired!!! I thought people whom sold bikes should feel passion and pride for there work.
But luckly the joy i get from the 650F makes it all worth it at the end of the day. I so glad i did go with a 650 for my first bike, Since im a big guy, 6'2 & 95KG.

Same overhere, just the first service has to be done by a dealer. I didn't have major issues yet, just a faulty left mirror and a torn rubber on the masterclutch. The last one is torn again,within 2 months, so they ordered a new one for me.
