Looking at making my GSX650F more tour friendly AND a better companion for cold morning commutes in Minnesota. So I started looking at touring screens, quickly found out that it would be $150+ for that option:

Then I looked at adding the spoiler to the stock screen (price for the MRA is listed above) and the Puig version is next to impossible to find in the USA, some European stores sell them but the stores generally don't have international shipping options AND the Puig seems a bit overpriced for it's size...)

Image

So then I was looking on e-bay, and some dealer in CA is listing a GSX650F Touring screen for $109, but no picture. They claim it has a lip on it but who knows.

So, then, by accident of chance and endless internet searching I found this other brand, Luminar, never heard of it before and it didn't show up in a search on this forum. But they have a picture of their product ON a GSX650F:

So after reading about it and looking at the pictures of their product on other bikes in their gallery, http://www.laminarlip.com/ , I thought I'd risk it. I might be out a hundred bucks, but that seems to be the going rate.

I'll post again when I get it mounted on my bike, but in the meantime, does anyone know anything about this product? Anything I should watch for or be careful of when attaching this thing?

Opposing viewpoints.

The search function apparently doesn't work properly because only one of these threads shows up when looking for "laminar".

New Screen Lip Mounted

The square pad in the seat is a gel pad I inserted under the seat cover:

Mounted Handlebar Bracket last week in anticipation of this screen letting me sit up higher:

Would you mind posting the details for the handlebar bracket?

Thanks!

Mike

That is a Powermadd 475 riser, 2" 7/8 to 7/8. They have another riser for adding thicker 1 1/8 handlebars, but I wanted to keep my original handlebars so 7/8 to 7/8 works, and they have a 3" inch version, but I was afraid of the 3" risers as possibly being too much for both me and the bike cables. After installing it I can see that the cables are still good and maybe there is enough left to allow another inch, but I'm more comfortable knowing that the cables aren't stretched out too much and I like the feel now.

http://powermadd.com/products/PowerRiser475.html

There was a little problem installing it though, the risers on the Suzuki are really close together AND they are rounded oval shape, so I had to sand just the slightest bit from the inside edges of the GSX650F risers to get a really good fit on the power riser mounts, just a rounded edge wood sander was good since the risers are made of aluminum they are soft. Additionally, the two inch riser doesn't leave much room underneath to allow a regular sized allen wrench to be under it so you can't tighten down the bottom ones when the handlebars are moved back where you want them. So I tightened down the bottom bolts on each riser and then moved the powermadd riser where I wanted it, and then tightened down the top two bolts, torquing it into place. Good solid feel to it now, very happy with it, glad I bought it.

I didn't shop around much, I just bought it at the first place I found them, http://www.bikebandit.com/powermadd-uni ... bar-risers for $58.46.

Balderdash,
Can you provide some review on the luminar lip? Does it hold at high speeds?

The lip moves the air flow higher, it still hits me but higher near my helmet and top of my shoulders. I raised the handlebars though, a good inch higher and an inch back, so I'm riding wth my head more upright than I was before with the stock handlebar setup, I'm 5' 11". It's much easier to tuck behind the screen now, but I do that just to change up positions during long rides or on really cold days. It's a good breather/break position.

I've seen no real buffeting, the lip seems locked in tune with the original screen under it, I didn't install the screws yet, not sure if they are needed or not. The screws would require me to drill holes through the original screen and I hesitated doing that.

For a true touring screen I think a person would want a taller screen still, but for me I'm liking it, glad I bought it. I pushed it a few times for very short distances, I haven't seen it give me any reason to think it's going to fly off, but honestly, if I hit 90 or 100 then I wasn't there very long. Can cruise at 70-80 all day long, I've done it twice for over 650 miles with no problems so far.

On the subject of touring screens, does anyone know what the puig touring screen is like at all ? I'm 5'7" tall and the wind hits me on the chin and i have sw motech barbacks fitted, how would the puig touring go or the mra screen with the spoiler fitted ? I did find a photo of an mra screen and spoiler on the site. It was taken from the riding position, What i did notice was the spoiler sits up higher the the top of the screen in it's fully extended position do any of you have to look through it or is it low enough to see over it ?

Thanks for your help.
