I was just wondering what speeds and how long do you travel when taking a long trip and also what do you consider a long trip?
I will be going to my parents house soon and I will be doing about 70 mph in 6th gear of course. The trip is 65 miles one way, but I may just keep on going on my way home just to roam if ya know what I mean Anyway, thanks for the responses in advance.

when there is traffic, I do the speed limit on the interstate. But, there is a stretch if Interstate 49 between town and my house that is usually very light with traffic. At those times it is not uncommon for me to go 130+ on the way home after work.

I consider a long trip one that takes anything more than a day. If not I consider it 'just out for a ride'.
As for the speed limit thing, I stick to the posted limits most times but am usualy a bit over. - so is everyone else though. There is lots of long open roads where I am from so it's also typical for me to have the 'F' over 200kmh but I usualy back off at 222kmh.
Just ride however your comfortable and confident and don't ride outside your limits.
I read an article which was full of good advice and the heading was "Ride your own Ride, not the guy in fronts" Don't be concerned for how fast everyone else is going or how quick they are in the corners. Just "ride your own ride".

Thanks for the responses all. I was just curious waht some considere a long trip. I do the 5 to 10 over the speed limit. But like BB said, I stay within my limits and Knolltop, I just ride my ride. It was just of a curiosity thing. The long trip thing was more of a, should I worry about riding at the speed limit for more than an hour or two, because I read some people say don't ride at this rpm for too long and such as it may hurt the engine and such. Thanks for all the input. I just broke 300 miles on her today!!

Yes, during the first 500 to 600 miles you should keep it below 5000 RPMs and do not ride long distances without frequently changing your RPMs. Then after that, watch your RPMs for the next 2000 miles and keep it below 7000 to 8000 RPMs and alternate but not as frequently as the break in period.
However, if you stay away from slabbing it's not hard to keep your RPMs fluctuating. Have fun and ride safe!

I just got back from another 5 hour trip (one way). That was starting to be what I would call a long ride but I doubt I'd feel much differently on a cruiser. It's really just a matter of sitting in one place for so long. As bikes go, this one is just swell for a long ride. Here in N.C., you can pretty much get away with speeds 10 mph over the posted limit on the interstate hwy. You are risking a ticket if you go much over that. I rode mostly between 80 and 85 mph in a 70 mph zone. Had it up to 130 mph briefly with no problems. I think I'd want to break the engine in according to the manual before riding for long distances at constant higher rpms.

We did "fun" ride today ... 210 miles .... and it's Dec 1 & am in northern US ... this global warming thingy is great for us bikers .... unbelievable!!!!
