Well airplane engines don't generally sit in temperature controlled hangers, most are outside. I wouldn't worry about it, I would bne more worried about how the 2009 used one was road broken i nand stored than the brand new one. And yes I bought a 2 year old bike back in the mid 80's that had been in a crate for more than year and had a friend buy a Yamaha Virago in 1988 that was still in the crate when he took delivery of it and it was a 1983 model. I would definitely not worry about the cylinders having rust in them. There is a reason most dealers do not want customers around when they do the initial startup and inspection of the bike, most of them smoke like crap burning out the cylinder fog and such when 1st started.

Well, I went to the dealer to buy the used 2009 Orange bike, but it was sold a few days prior. (I couldn't get to the dealer sooner, since I couldn't get my trade-in GS500F down my driveway due to an inch of ice. By the time the ice melted -- days later -- the 2009 bike was sold.) However, I was able to purchase the 'new' 2008 Blue bike. I absolutely love it! As it turns out, I'm also glad it worked out the way it did since I like the idea that I'm the one breaking in the bike. I know some will say it may not be the best financial move, but getting a 'new' bike sure is nice.
I'm surprised at how much nicer the GSX650F is to ride is than my previous GS500F. To me, the comparison is like comparing a household cat to a cougar -- but this is a well behaved cougar! The power is instant and smooth. The heavier weight of the bike is evident when pushing it around, but once under power and moving it's smooth and very controllable. The instrument cluster is great. I like having a digital speedo and analog tach. I'm looking forward to many happy years with this bike and know that choosing a GSX650F was the right move.
Thanks to everyone's feedback and ideas -- much appreciated. Okay, now I can start customizing it......let's see -- speedo-healer, mirror extensions, after-market seat, new pipe, flush turn signals, gel-grips, after-market windscreen, LED taillight, HID headlight, ...... (but not all at once unfortunately, due to $$$ limitations)

I just bought a 2008 that was new in January. It was in a crate until just 2 months ago so it was not sitting on a showroom floor for 3 years. In the past I have purchased bikes as old as 5 years old that were in crates but assembled on purchase. This is my 3rd leftover and I have never had an issue with them prior. Good luck with either choice but ask the dealer when the bike was assembled if your overly concerned. I save enough money on the purchase of a leftover I bought the full compliment of Givi luggage installed. Happy trails.
