I would like some help understanding the valve mechanism, that is, why does Suzook use shims under buckets. At least if they were shims over buckets you could extract the shims easier.
I looked at a Kawa 500 Ninja, the valve adjust is stems and nuts, just like my old Concours. Which was a pig as far as getting to the valve mechanism, but at least the adjustment was simple and cost $0.
I am looking at Suzook GS500F and GSX650F and also Kawa Ninjas 250, 500 and now 650 for my next bike. (Honda and Yamaha have no comparable bikes).
It seems that the Ninja 500 is the best value. Certainly the Zook 650 is faster, etc. but the extra work of removing camshafts, waiting for shims, etc. seems like a pain.
Ride safe!

The shim and bucket design allows the engine to rev higher, a rocker arm with an adjuster and a locknut has to much mass/weight to change direction quick enough to allow a high redline

You're basing your choice of bike on the valve adjustment mechanism?
+1. I don't think one factor should make one's entire decision, even if that factor is valid (and this valve adjustment issue might well be, I don't know). Evaluate the entirety of the experience and then choose.

I had an 05 Ninja 500 for 10k miles, traded it last year. They are good bikes for the money, very quick and nimble handling but the gsx650f is much smoother and is just a better overall machine but of course more money. Also, I believe the 500 required valves to be checked at 6000 miles where the 650f is not until 14500 miles. One thing to remember if you ever have it done by mechanic is to deliver the machine the day before to allow valves to cool down prior to being checked. I just dropped it off one morning expecting it to be done by noon but had to wait an extra day.
I had my valves checked at 24 000 km as per the maintenance schedule.
As expected there was no need for adjustment.
The mechanic said that on new jap bikes it's extremely rare that they need adjustment before the 48 000 km check.
I've been told that at many garages they don't actually bother to check them at 24k (only charge you for it!).
