In Januari I went to the Triumph dealer to check out both the Street and Speed Triple. You can read about that here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3707
Anyway,
Because of the cosmetic damage from my small accident last year and almost getting to the 24000km service and tires getting worn I decided not to wait anymore and look at a Multi Brand Dealer that would take my old bike. In addition: My new bike is a present for myself. I was struggling with my weight for quiet some time. I also had the drag along 90+kg's @ a length of 1.78m. So I gave myself the next goal last August. Get the weight down below 80kg's and I can buy my new bike.
I went from 95kg to 81kg now and still shrinking Running/Jogging 3-4 times a week and going to the gym finally paid off!
Anyway back to the bike.
I e-mailed the biggest Bike dealer in the Netherlands for a test ride on both the Street Triple and Speed Triple and that I wanted to trade in my old bike.
So today I went to the dealer and rode the Street Triple first. This bike thinks for you!!!! Looking at the corner and the bike goes through it without thinking. With the 650F you have to think and 'work' to get the bike through corners, this one does it and gives you the feeling it can go faster/harder and with even more angle. It weighs 50kg less then the 650F. Its a knife through butter so smooth/sharp/fast it goes through the corners.
Engine wise it makes 106bhp but untill 7k rpm you think you're riding the 650F, same torque/power curve up to that rpm range. Only above it it really takes off. But the throttle response is as crisp as the the 650F but then without any surge or on/off feeling of the injection. From 2k rpm is just goes.
Went back to the dealer and tried the Speed Triple again (didn't tell them I already rode it at another dealer). You can feel it has more weight then the Street Triple but still alot less then the GSX650F (190vs214 vs 241kg) Grunt from idle rpm is just there and takes off @ any rpm. You have to think a bit more when riding the bike then the Street but boy does it go. Corners require a bit more flow then the Street but nothing going to the 'sweat work' you need with the 650F.
Didn't even go beyond 8k rpm where it makes a beautifull sound with the Arrow 3-1 exhaust. Its has a linear power curve so nothing suprising like supersports. But the 70-73lbs/ft it makes from idle rpm is just heavenly.
So now that I rode them both it was very easy. The Speed Triple was the one I needed/wanted/desired!! I ordered a Crystal Pearl White one with Fly Screen and Bellypan and traded in the 650F. But I can still go on my Eifel (Germany) trip next week with the 650F. I can pick up the Speed in 2-3 weeks.
Gonna look like this when finished
But me switching to another bike wont keep my from visiting this forum and posting/helping out!

That thing looks the horn, would definitely like one in my garage! But I've promised myself that my next ride will be a dedicated trackie, as soon as I get rid of one of the 3 bikes currently taking all the space...

Well done Kadet! That thing looks fantastic. So did you splash out on the Arrow exhaust? And does the fly screen do anything other than keep the bugs out of the gauges (and look good!)?

Mainly for looks without it the lights look awkward. Its not my picture of course, but its how mine is gonna look. The Arrow exhaust, although a beauty to look at, is to expensive (1300,-) and not road legal. In the Netherlands no problem but in Germany where I go alot for mountain riding it is. So I'm looking at a a few other possibilities.
Leo Vince, Zard en HP Corse make nice Low Boy 3-1 exhaust. Especially the HP Corse is just jaw dropping gorgeous!

Last sunday I had a short trip with 6 other guys. 1 of which was a Daytona 675. Beautifull bike and, IMHO, has the best engine sound of any '600'cc race bike! But just like the 650 engine off the F, you have to keep in in the revs to get going. Where I was cruising around in 4-5-6th gear he was gunning for it in 2-3 and sometimes 4th.
Gotta love the 70+lbsft/110nm torque the 1050cc powerplant produces from 2800rpm onwards!!!
Also installed a Mivv GP low exhaust to replace the stock twin cans and removed the passenger pegs. The bike now weighs under 210kg with a full tank! Have put on 1000miles in just over 1 month and can now really push the engine, will probably go to a local suspension company to dial the suspension in for me. Front is a bit to harsch (needs lighter oil) and rear a bit to soft. Still handles 2x better then the F and the brakes....... dont get me started on the brakes. Brembo Calipers+Brembo Radial Brake Cylinder =/= 1 finger braking with ease!
I do miss the F in some occasions but thats mostly when filling the bike up (37mpg tops) or wanting to ride with a backpack on which feels like having a parachute strapped on your back without any fairing reducing wind drag. Need to make some pictures of the bike and put them on here!
