10 Degrees C, and a whole week worth of rain to flush the road salt away. 'Time to put the GSX650F on the road again' I though to myself (it has been 2 months since I rode the bike). Had a battery tender on it for a day per 2 weeks to keep the battery charged. And like always it was 'Ignition on->Start Button->Running perfectly, just the same as when you bought the bike (new).
Went out for a 90 minute ride and already had a stop at the nearest Triumph dealer in mind.

So I found it (have no GPS and only faintly knew the location) and went it. There it was, the new Speed Triple 2010 standing in the middle of the showroom floor. A salesman already saw my coming and asked if he could help me. We talked a bit about what I wanted for a bike and that I'm still deciding between a Street Triple R and Speed Triple 2011. Since the Speed Triple 2011 version has semi slick race tires on it the salesman was reluctant to give the Speed out for a demo ride. Cant blame him. 9-10degrees C, Rain and semi slicks on a 1050cc are just the perfect combination to crash the bike. I already said I didn't want to testride either bike in these conditions and just came to look at both of them.

After emptying another bucket of drool coming from my mouth I sat on both bikes. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to get my feet/toes to the ground with my riding boots (Sidi Strada Rain with a small sole). Both bikes have a seat height of 825mm compared to the 770mm of the GSX650F. Upon closer inspection I noticed the seat, tank and frame are alot smaller in the front section of the seat then the GSX650F, giving your legs the desired room to move around.

Also sitting on the Street Triple R felt like sitting on one of those 50cc Yamaha Aprilia Race Scooters/Mopeds. Its light as a feather, well what did I expect from a bike weighing in about 120lbs lighter :)

Anyways, from looks only (I never seen a STR or Speed before in real life)I cant give either bike the upper hand so I have to wait about 2-3 months to test ride either of them to see which bike, or rather, which engine suits me best.

So what would you guys choose??

Street Triple R (Matt Orange)

Thx!

Well......I dont need a bike for commuting but for fun and I have the Financial means to buy one. Just realize how much fun the GSX650F has given and can give. Multiply this by factor x10 and you have one of these bikes :) I dont want to scrape pegs every corner and also love to just tour around at normal speeds, but I feel somethings missing and I hope one of these can fix that.

Spending alot of time on the Triumph forums and our own Motor-Forums Speed and Street topics to find out anything about quality issues and I dont find any problems that aren't happening with any Japanese bike. Let alone BMW, you would think BMW would be the most thrustworthy bike to buy when in fact they have more problems then Ducita and Aprilia combined :D

BTW, I'm not 'selling out' this forum. Will continue helping/posting in the future.

Personally, I'd take the Street Triple R in the orange or the new Gloss Black. Would have liked one of these before I got the F but finances wouldn't allow. Potentially this will be my next bike if I stop spending money & start saving for one.

If your guna be getting rid of the GSXF and will be using this new bike as a "catch all" then IMO get the streety

If you intend keeping the GSXF for daily commutes and such and the new ride is for fun, wood, adrenalin and all that stuff, then get the speedy Nom nom nom

I dont do any commutes on my bike. Is 100% for fun. Work is 5km away and I use a bicycle for that. When ever its a good day to ride, I take out the bike and ride for a bit. Sometimes 50km, sometimes I'm gone till late in the evening for 200-300km rides. 2-4 times a year I go on a 4 day weekend to Germany (300km highway ride then its twistie time  ) Maybe once in 2 years I go for a 1-2week trip to the Alps/Italy/Spain. I never need any storage because for 1 day rides 1 dont have anything with me and for the weekend trips I use some sort of duffle bag which gonna be replace by a ventura pack system for the Triumph.

The main problem with the 650F for me is that I need to rev the 'shit' out of it to keep pace when going uphill. Since our country is flat-country I really cant judge the Street/Speed for that. But I do like to have the ability to just let the bike sit in one gear and then just cruise around, hills or no hills. So for that the Speed Triple would be the nicest option. The street feels like a 'moped' when I sat on it and its just looks/feels tiny with me on it.

No way Jose! :D

The Hayabusa is the ultimate poser bike (No offense to BikerBoy) and had to much power for my needs. I dont need to reach super high speeds, thats why I want a naked. Also the B-king is no option. I dont want a 260kg bike anymore, I want something nimble and light.

Considering what the American's do to their Busa's and the influence they have generated, I actualy agree with that comment 100%, so no offence taken at all. Different story in Oz though. The Busa suits the Australian environment perfectly and we actualy ride them without the need to showpony them.

To us the ultimate Poser bike is a Harley.

Kadett, get the Speed Triple R. They are one hell of a good bike. I wouldn't mind one myself.

Hey BB,

Well not just in America. About 1/3 of the Busa owners on Dutch forum are planning or have done a turbo project, with or without an extended swing arm :(

BTW which bike do you mean, its the Street Triple R and the Speed Triple. The Speed doesn't need an R to be fast I think :)

I meant the Street Triple. My friend has the Daytona 675 and although I've only taken it for a spin twice it was a dream to ride. The build quality, handling, braking, shifting, power delivery etc.. is all so damn good it makes me want to buy one without ever questioning the decision. I found it a bit heavy on the juice (riding within reason I got 275k out of a tank) but that is my only negative critisism about it. They are a seriously good bike. Not sure if you know the Street Triple is basicaly a naked Daytona with some upgrades.

As for the Busa mods I just don't get it. It's a shame seeing a molested Busa. We kind of laugh at what they do to 'em. Down here 95% of Busa's are everyday riders that have just the basic mods (levers, brake lines, screen etc.) None of this 330 fat tyre, extended swingarm, custom chrome etc... bullshit. We buy them, ride them, race them and treat em like any other bike on the market. Some guys do have turbo's and NOS but they are mostly 100% drag bikes and not street registered.

HD as a brand is not very positively thought of here in Holland. A few things bikers here say about HD are.

- Need a bag to collect all the fallen of bits you loose while riding
- Technogoly from the '60's sold at a modern price tag
- If you dont need the bag for the fallen parts you need a toolkit to keep it running.

:)

Anyways, I already knew the STR is a Daytona 675 with a SBK handle bar on it and less agressive foot peg location. My main reason stands, I really want a bike I can put in a certain gear and just forget to need to shift :)

On my dutch forum I said the following.

The 1250cc engine from the Bandit 1250, put into the frame of the new GSR750 with the rear swingarm/suspension and radial brakes of the gixxer =/= biker porn heaven :)

As a responce I got: "Buy a B-king"

Speed3

Torque a plenty that is petty flat right across the rev range
Fucking awsome exhaust note. Add a aftermarket pipe and it just gets better
Looks horn
Tunable ECU without need for add on boxes (more so than the suzuki's)
Good range of add on bits from OEM

Get it, you know you want to

I LOVE the Street R in orange. I've spent some time drooling on them at the dealer, but I still like having some weather protection. If I could have TWO bikes, my second would be a Triumph.
