Hi all. Did a trip from Sydney to the Warrumbungles and back a couple of weeks ago.
The trip route was sydney to Lithgow via Bells Line Rd, had lunch, then to Mudgee and stayed the night at a B&B. Then on to Gulgong, from Gulgong I travelled via the castlereigh hwy to Dunedoo, then to Gilgandra, again via the castlereigh Hwy. From Gilgandra I went towards the NE travelling vie the Newell Hwy till i reached the Mendoran rd (Google Earth UTM 55J 682415.96 m E 6516774.86 m S) Here I chucked a left into the Mendoran road and travelled approx 30Kms to the John Renshaw Parkway where I turned right. From here you travel into the heart of the Warrumbungles National Park where you can camp overnight if you want. In the park, apart from the enjoyable scenery, there is the Siding Spring Observatory which is good to see if you have an intrest in astronomy and even if you don't its still worth seeing. The mob from the observatory have rigged up a scale model of the solar system using the observatory to represent the Sun and from there as you travel out into the countryside they have placed scale models of the planets
beside the roads. I was gobsmacked to see how close Mercury, Venous and Earth are to the Sun relative to the other planets. It was really good. Be carefull of the bloody kangaroos, they see you coming and try to suicide under and into your bike, and the is a hell of a lot of them.
Headed back home via The Hunter Valley to get some wine.
Good trip, good roads, good fun.
