So thanks for the help that I have got so far. Im trying to get down to the bottom of this problem. I am about to change my air filter i have changed the oil and it loods pretty good (not milky) indicating my head gasket was fine. However, when I changed my spark plugs they where black and wet on the ends. I changed all four and they where like that. Any ideas on my problem? Im getting no more than about 25 or 30 mpg. Thanks for all help..... And possible ball park estimate of a price at a shop for the service for a more dificult job. thanks

What kind of condition is the air filter in? Those are expensive. I'm no bike mechanic, but if I don't keep the air filter clean on my lawn mower, it will foul the plug like you describe... black and wet and it wont fire worth a darn. If the bike has an oxygen sensor, and it is bad, that could mess with the fuel mixture too I think... I wish I was smarter about these things! I guess we will all learn a thing from this when you get it sorted out! Best of luck to you!

See link - "how to read a spark plug"
http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/tech_support/spark_plugs/faqs/faqread.asp

Also

See link -"My engine has a steady miss and gets terrible fuel mileage. What's wrong?"
http://autos.yahoo.com/maintain/repairqa/engine/ques090_3.html

Both links found in 5 seconds using the search phrase "GSX spark plug black and wet" in google.

Hope you get it all sorted. Sounds like you got a bit of work on your hands.

Cheers. BB

Have you put on a slip on, and what kind of filter is in there. That will make the bike run very rich, and darken the plugs. Also could be not all the fuel is burning which could mean the injectors are clogged or maybe you got a bad tank of gas and the fuel is not burning all the way. try putting in dry gas, in case there is water in ur tank due to bad gas it will dry it up and buy injector cleaner and dump that in. Start cheap and work ur way up.

black and wet (the spark plugs silly) gives an indication the bike is running rich (ie- putting too much fuel in)
this could be for a number of reasons
*air filter clogged - Either clean and re oil it if it's an after market like K&N (IMO get rid of it if it is) or replace it if it's a OEM filter
*someone has messed with the ECU and made if over fuel - take it to someone that ahs a yoshie box and can reset the fuel mixtures to factory (or zero map). I am not talking about a add on box here. The factory ECU has the ability to be played with. Do not add a PC (or similar) yet until it's sorted
*One of the sensors is playing up - read this thread. the first couple of steps telll you how to get the trouble codes form the ECU. this post will explain the codes. I doubt this is the problem as in all your post you have never mentioned the Fi light is on.
*The O2 sensor is reading incorrectly - unplug it (don't remove it) and go for a ride to what the result is. The Fi light will remain on and a code will be displayed and stored in the ECU. Don't panic the ECU uses a default code and the bike will run.
*One or more of the injectors is faulty or dribbling - the easiest fix for this is replacement.
*The ign coils are faulty - again replace
*The coils are not getting enough spark to the coil - how well do the spark plugs fit into the coils
*The coils may not have been fitted to the plugs properly - were they tight when you pulled them off.
*The plugs have shit themselves - as you've got the plugs out, put new ones in (you were guna do that anyways right) remember to gap them correctly before screwing them in

More can follow after we hear more if you like.

cheers
