I currently am riding with a used Fulmer helmet with the chin bar that rises. Nice feature but probably not as safe as some out there. It gets quite noisy too at speeds over 50 mph, probably because of the addtional cracks in the front of the helmet that allow the chin bar to move up and down. So... can anybody recommend a good quality helmet that will be reasonably priced (under $300) and quiet? Those Shoei's and Arai's sure are nice but I don't have the dosh right now for one of those

I have a Scorpion Exo 700 and love it. Flows air well is quiet and fits nice and snug. And it fits your price range mine cost (I can't remember exactly) right at $300.00 After reading the post below I looked for the receipt and found it. Mine was $259.00 +tax with the graphics I chose.

I also have a Scorpion EXO 700. Great helmet. Quieter than a lot of helmets that I have owned, great air flow and high quality for the price. I got mine for $229 at motorcyclesuperstore.com. The price varies depending on colors and graphics, but they are all well under $300.

I use a Schuberth R1 - very quiet (apparently one of the most quiet helmets in the world!) and out of the lorry load of helmets I tried on, was the best fit for my apparently strange shaped head. Neither Arai or Shoei fit nicely and a whole host of others that I tried such as AGV etc.
Paid a fortune for it, but it was definitely worth me paying that bit extra for something that is comfortable, quiet and has good features such as a slide down sunvisor inside the helmet - very cool! I splashed out on a pinlock system for it too, which obviously helps loads with stopping the visor misting up in the rain - again well worth the money.
I went to a helmet store with all of the brands, and very open-mindedly tried practically everything. I ended up with the Arai Quantum 2. It fits me absolutely perfect.
Don't go with preconceived ideas of your head shape. I was dead wrong.

i've got two shoei's, a raid2 and a x-spirit, the raid2 is the cheapest in their range and is REALLY quite, Also have a look at the Shark Evoline, its a flip front and is cheaper than shoei

I have two Shoei's, the RF-1000 and TZ-R. They're both very comfortable, but would like to find something with a little less wind noise. I have nothing to compare with since these are my first two helmets so i don't know what would be better.

It's funny that none of you guys wears a bell helmet. I've heard they're pretty good, although not as faimous as arai and shoei. I use an agv, not the best for touring purposes, but for track days it's the best!

I have a Bell Sprint helmet... And I love it. Its all about the fit though, I have had many bell/giro mountain bike helmets over the years so I had to stick with my roots...

I have a Scorpion helmet, it is ok but does not compare in comfort to an Arai.
Nor does it compare in price !!!! Arai is in my opinion the state of the art in motorcycle helmets, they are just too proud of them.
That's sorta why I no longer have one. My last 2 were a matched set with my bike. I let them go with the bike years ago for an extra $200. I may still buy one in another year or so when i can afford to piss the money away.
