So i paid a visit to halfords and got myself a charger.
Great afetr a while it started and i got my gear on and off i went.
I noticed that when i stoped at traffiic lights her idle tick over was lumpy but i continued for about 30mile or so to arrive home and she died on me...... completly nothing on her screen.

Best case scenario you've got a loose connection right at the battery. If not that then perhaps there's a short b/w the stator and rectifier. Hope this helps until someone more experienced can chime in.

Your alternator or voltage regulator may be gone. When you charge your battery again and start the bike hook up a voltage meter to the battery. Let the bike rev @ 5000rpm and the voltage should be between 14.0 to 15.5 volt.

The last thing you can do is measure the output of the alternator directly, this to ensure its the alternator thats broken. This requires the removal of the lefthand side fairing and measuring the output by disconnecting the alternator->voltage regulator connector (3pin connector, trace the wiring from the back of the alternator cover). If you dont feel up to the task its better to take it to the dealer and have them look at it. If you still want to do it yourself but are still uncertain what I meant I will take pictures to show you.
Output of the alternator directly should be at least 60volt @ 5000rpm.

Hi sparky Kadett is on the right track regarding your "cutting out" the 13VDC is not a good sign, many years ago i had the problem on a honda 350 four. daytime ok, headlight off, nightime dead battery.
The altenator on most motorcycles the last 30 years are AC THREE PHASE, then recitfied to DC, my 350 four had lost one phase and thats why no charging under full load.
So if no partial shorts, and as Kadett instructed if AC output below '60volt AC @ 5000rpm" You have lost a phase so yep new alternator.
