Post subject: Why would I want to buy a new Exhaust?

Excuse the dumb question but as someone whose only been biking for a few years I find myself asking the question.
I've had my GSX F for a few months now and while at first I was concerned I'd have problems filtering through traffic with that massive can 2,000 miles later I've had no problems.
So, I'm not overly concerned about performance, I bought the F for comfort/practicality (I say overly concerned - I don't want a slow old dog), if I wanted outright performance I would have bought an X and am not worried about the noise it makes so if I were to fork out my hard earned I'd primarily want something that improves the mpg without detracting from the performance - as mentioned the stock can is massive so would be happy to replace it with something smaller/less obtrusive.
Am I wrong when I think that most aftermarket exhausts are for performance and a more throaty noise?

Sound and style, basically.
I would be very surprised if the cans actually do make an impact on the performance of the bike, although the dyno runs that the companies publish show otherwise.
It does make you feel like you're going faster though when the can is roaring

I agree with the previous poster. I have the Two Brothers aluminum. I have several posts of my youtube video. No doubt the new slip on is smaller, lighter, and is louder. I like the sound of mine, it sounds more powerful, much more like a true sport bike.

I got mine for 3 reasons...
1. Heat.. The stock can gets deadly hot.. It burned a few peoples hands when they touched it. I also accidently dropped something down then I was taking stuff out from under the seat and got a nasty forearm burn from it.
2. looks. I liked the look of a smaller can. The bazoka comments I got from just about everyone helped nudge me too.. haha
3. Sound. I really loved the sound of the new pipe over the stock.
some other things that helped.. The after market cans are probably 1/4 of the weight of the stocker. They make it easier (and safer see heat) for saddle bags as it gives a little more room.
It's really just a matter of preferance. If you look at my sig. you will see I am one of those that enjoys modding and changing parts on his bike while others find getting the best feul milage, or whatever their heart desires.
That's the great thing about this bike. It's kind of a middle ground. Not a true blue sport bike, but not a true tourer.. It's ready for you to make it what you want.

+1 coolaid. My reasoning for getting my can is exactly the same in fact I agree with the entire post. . In terms of performance, I have not noticed anything significant to boast about. As far as gas is concerned I burn up more in a shorter time . . . but thats my fault.
Although I wear plugs, it sounds too good not to rev higher than normal.
I changed mine for 3 reasons, in this order:
3- weight reduction & slight performance increase(if you believe Yoshi's dyno numbers)
2- looks- that stock can gets bigger every time you look at the bike. The bike has a great clean look to it, until you get to that spud gun
1- safety- less heat and more sound. You can hear the engine over the exhaust with the stock can.

In my opinion, the cost to replace the bazooka won't yield the results when you go to sell/trade our bikes.
I don't buy bikes to sell them, I buy bikes to ride them...and yes you never get back what you put into them. Lets just say my Yoshimura looks less like a chrome cannon, and that makes me happy...and my life is all about making me happy!

There was a post of the weight on here and the stock exhaust is only 2-3lbs lighter than most of the aftermarkets, not even 30% lighter. The stock exhaust weighs 14lbs 8oz. If you like the sound and the style thats fine but there is no great weight savings on average.

Stock Can....
232 oz.
14.5 lb.
6577 g
6.577 kg
The Yoshimura Carbon Fiber TRC weighs around 8.5 lbs, so in my case the weight savings was over 5 lbs (if I remember correct?) But even at that weight difference, weight savings is a terrible reason to buy a new can.
With a weight savings of a few pounds and the potential of an extra pony or two, resale or no resale, I agree with GSXFun, it's about being happy! it's a nicer sound than the stock (IMO), but it's more about personal preference. I like the look of my Carbon Fibre TRC over the look of the stock, and I feel safer because it is louder than the stock muffler...
But if you're happy with the stock pipe and don't want to change it/spend some more cash (on a new farkle), I'm not sure a forum on here would be enough to change my mind... (No offense posters!)
