Hello all! First post here in the forums. Don't have my gsx650f yet, but will in a couple of weeks (hoping for a blue one). I sold my Vstrom (sick and tired of the buffeting and highway blow-around)...just wasn't spirited enough. Hoping that this bike will be the answer to what the Vstrom wasn't. Anyway, came across this xenon kit on eBay and was wondering what you all thought about the viability of it on the gsx650f. It looks cool and would be a sweet addition IMHO. Here are some pics:

Looks like a hell of a job to fix them in a way that they are not blinding oncoming trafic.
I changed the original H7 low beam bulb for a HID Xenon 6000K in the third week I owned this bike.
I can tell.... it was 3 weeks too late.....
Never want to go without a Xenon headlamp anymore.

Hello and welcome.
Like Lampie I changed my globes and it help ALOT ,cheap and easy.
Not sure where your from ,so go to the top of the page and see "profile" and add where you are ,helps with info or on laws...which bring me to my point.
In some countrys they are illegal and may not be worth all the drama of fitting them and getting fined or the bike taken of the road.
Go with some new globes first and see how you go.

Thanks for the welcome. Its nice to join a motorcycle forum where the people act older than 3 year-olds In my experience with xenon's, without a projector lens, you spray high discharge light all over the place. Not to mention oncoming traffic. These seem to have projectors included...we'll see if its worth it after I get the bike. Lampie, do you have any pics of your HID setup? Perhaps the reflectors in the stock housing are able to focus the HID light alright without projectors? What's your take?

First and foremost, welcome. You'll love the bike once you get it.
I changed to an HID system a couple months after I got her and like Lampie, I wish I would had done it right away. The projectors for that HID system looks cool and looks the lighting system of the latest Gixxers. The only negative i see is having to open the headlight assembly and breaking down the stock projector(so it appears).
Opening the assembly is not difficult but definitely a pain staking task. I did it to add the angel eyes/halo ring and regretted that decision.
For $80 or so USD you can get a top notch HID system that will easily light up any street or highway with the stock projector with very little customization. But as a DIY enthusiast, you have sparked my interest. All in all I would recommend HID to anyone.

40oz, thanks for you honest answer. That's some good advice. I think my first mod will be a 4300k HID bulb conversion for the low beam and maybe put in a Philips crystal vision ultra for the high beam (4300k halogen). We'll see. Monday I go down to the dealer to 'wheel and deal'. They want 6900 OTD...I think that may be a bit high. Its a blue 08' still in the crate. What do you guys think (not to get too off topic), 6900 OTD a bit high?

IMO price is based on local demand. When I got mine last year you couldn't get a bike for under full retail. The dealer here couldn't put bikes together as fast as they were selling them. If that's the case the dealers pretty much control the selling price (if other people are willing to pay). I've seen better deals on this site for the '08 model, but check with local dealerships and see how bikes are selling.

No worries my friend. I went with an 8000K and never looked back. I ordered from DDM Tuning which has a lifetime warranty. I just checked and I was wrong about the pricing, $45 for a single bulb, slim ballasted system. I upgraded to a 55W for $5-10. The bulb was crap though, I ended up ordering a Phillips from xenonrider.com
Midlifeuturn is right, definitely depends on the area. Oct. 2008 I almost got raped $7800 OTD which would have been full retail. I went to cycletrader.com and got quoted $6400 OTD on a new out the crate. Check that site out in your area.

On my old Bandit (2001) I had a double projector lens in the headlamp.
I changed to HB4 low beam and NEVER had anyone signal to me .
But by using such a perfect lens.... you don't have any light ,other than on the road, which was lit like daylight.
Roadsigns and oncoming trafic didn't lit up so brightly.
It happened a few times a cardriver didn't notice me.
Now with the GSX and it's reflector, I can see roadsigns more clearly now.
A less little light on the road.
So oncoming trafic notice me earlyer. That's a safe thing.
Mounting it wasn't a big problem.
I studied this forum and the topic of somefinn.
cut the 2 wires of the Xenon bulb, drilled 2 holes, 1cm apart, and reconected the wires again. sealed it with a little silicon.
I placed a HELLA relais under the seat, near the fusebox.
Used the ignition fuse as steering for this relais.
so contact on...relais on..... light on.
No more ON-OFF-ON when starting, on the original wiring
Now I can use PARK lights again.
Perhaps I can take a picture next week, when I'm changing sparkplugs.
Then I have to take off the fairing...

Geezus! Did you really pay $45 for a Phillips bulb ? I get them for $10!
http://www.ocmoto.com/index.php?topic=12440.0 It's our local rider forum here in the Orange County area in SoCal and one of the members is a HID distributor. Get'em from him next time.
** you're right about the DDM Tuning bulbs, they are crap lol. I switched out to Phillips.

Holy shite!!! I thought $45 was the cheapest I could get it after shopping around. Good find! I think I'm going to buy 4 out of spite lol.
I broke the DDM's trying to get that crap to fit, then when i got the phillips, i realized it wasn't as difficult as it turned out to be.

I fitted cheap xenon kit to my CBR f4i last year, which, like the GSXF uses H7 bulbs and has really poor visibility with just the low beam on.
The kit I used cost me around £30 delivered from China, and it was the best £30 I spent on that bike - really impressed with the kit for such an insignificant amount of money.
As lampie mentioned, I wouldn't worry too much about the projector. I would just get a proper HID conversion kit (e.g. with ballast etc, rather than just a bulb that some eBay sellers claim to be 'xenon' or 'HID' when really they are just higher wattage and different colour bulbs).
Here's a couple of pics at night of my old F4i with HID kit installed
It was pretty easy to fit, all I needed to do was take one of the lower fairings off to hide the ballast. You reuse the stock bulb holder, and tap into the same switched power supply that goes to that bulb holder. I didn't even have to cut any cables, I just stuffed the spade connectors from the HID power supply into the bulb holder power connector and taped it up. Its really easy to see what to do when you have the kit there in front of you. Well worth the little amount of time and money spent on this mod. I still have the kit here in the house - when I crashed my F4i I took the kit back off. It is so easily reversible. If I get a GSXF I will put the kit on it right away.
